WHAT TYPE OF HARDSCAPE GRID IS BEST FOR PAVERS?

Today we’re taking a look at the features and benefits of the Alliance Gator GG 30-30 Grid. This product can be used to stabilize stairs, walls, and raised patios. It has the added benefit of no memory, which means it lays flat and stays flat. Let’s explore some other highlights.

Gator Grid GG 30-30 is backed by all the leading paver manufacturers in North America. In this post, we’re going to explain why.

BIAXIAL STRENGTH

The 30-30 signifies the strength of the grid. Gator Grid GG 30-30 provides 30kN of strength (2052 LBF/FT) in both directions, making it a biaxial grid that offers the same strength in both directions.

Why is biaxial so important on a job site? It really comes down to efficiency when installing. Think of it this way. If you’re cutting a piece of uniaxial grid every 6 ft. for a 200 ft. wall, that’s a lot of pieces of grid. However, you can take a single piece of Gator Grid GG 30-30, roll it out parallel to that same wall, and you have 150 ft. covered like that!

VERSATILITY

We all know the importance of using a grid for walls, but where else might it be useful? Raised patios are held up by walls so Gator Grid GG 30-30 is a great option for reinforcing raised patios.

You can also use it with regular base … especially hybrid base, which is growing in popularity. In a hybrid base application, pavers sit on top of ¾” clean stone that has been topped with #8 or #9 stone. Both of these materials are open graded and provide free draining properties. In general, the installation also requires less compaction. While these are definite benefits on the job site, hybrid base tends to want to move laterally under load. The structural support added by a product like Gator Grid GG 30-30 will make all the difference in how hybrid base will perform.

NO MEMORY

One of the big downfalls with older style grids is recoil. After you roll it out, it wants to roll back up on you. To prevent this from happening, you’d have to put down some stones or pavers to weight the grid down and hold it in place. A major benefit of Gator Grid GG 30-30 is there’s no memory. It lays flat and stays flat!
